eggs and slimming

Eggs are a natural food, rich in good quality protein and not high in fat, and there are less than 80 calories in a medium egg.  There is evidence that consuming a diet that is high in protein may help you feel fuller for longer and therefore help you stick to your slimming diet because you feel less hungry.

Eggs are also a source of many essential vitamins and minerals (click here for more information).

Most nutritionists advise that the healthy way to lose weight is to eat a variety of natural, fresh foods, providing reasonable amounts of protein and not too much fat together with plenty of fibre from vegetables, fruit and whole grain cereal foods.

Nutritionists now also agree  that that the 'energy density' of your food and meals (the number of calories per gram of food) is also very important in influencing how full you feel after eating. Basing meals on more foods with a low energy density that contain fewer calories per gram can help you feel fuller for longer after eating and you should feel less inclined to eat again so soon, helping you eat less over the course of the day.

Eggs have a low energy density, as well as being high in protein.

For more information on energy density see the British Nutrition Foundation website.
